9-Point Flexibility Index Test

The nine point flexibility index test was designed by physical therapist Mariano Rocabado. The index measures the client’s inherent level of joint flexibility or mobility.

Generally females will score higher than their male counterparts on this test producing further evidence that females should participate more in strength training.

Scoring results:

Total score: 0-2

Physiologic finding: Stretching recommended to avoid injury to the musculotendinous unit.

Total score: 3+

Mild hyper-mobility: Care should be taken with exercise prescriptions placing excessive strain on joints.

Total score: 5+

Marked hyper-mobility: Recommend high resistance exercises in shortened ranges of movement.
