Abbreviations for Program Design

Abbreviations used in programming.

 

Load and Reps and Rest

Rep: repetitions

Set: Sets (a group of reps) 

BW: bodyweight

EXT: external load

ECC:  eccentric overload

AMRP: as many reps as possible

RP: rest period between sets or exercises

Rest: rest period between sets or exercises

A1-A2: Alternate between exercises labeled A1. and A2. 

( ): Reps and load recorded within brackets are warm-up sets

 

Body Relative to Bar or Equipment

B: back or behind

F: front or to the front

 

Grips

WG: wide grip

MG: medium grip

CG: close grip

RG: reverse grip

FG: Fat grip

 

Stances

WS: wide stance

MS: medium stance

NS: narrow stance

 

Bar Position/Lines of Movement

HB: in the squat, sit the bar high on the back/ neck; in the bench press lower the bar high up on chest (to neck)

MB: in the squat, sit the bar in a medium position on the back; in the bench press, lower the bar to the middle of the chest

LB: in the squat, sit the bar in a low position on the back/ neck; in the bench press, lower the bar low on the chest

 

Foot Positions

FA: feet up in the air (e.g. in bench press)

FB: feet on bench

FD: feet down on the ground

 

Weight or Body Position Relative to the Support Base

OG: plates start on the ground

OB: plates start on blocks

SOB: standing on a block

 

Other Positions

Prone: face down or palm down

Supine: face up or palm up

 

Equipment

EZ: EZ curl bar

DB: dumbbell

BB: barbell
