General Adaptation Syndrome

The kinetic chain seeks to maintain physiological balance (homeostasis).

It must be able to adapt to changing environments, known as the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS).

1. Alarm Reaction
2. Resistance Development
3. Exhaustion

The General Adaptation Syndrome Stage Reaction Alarm Reaction Resistance Development Exhaustion

1. Initial reaction to stressor such as increased oxygen and blood supply to the necessary areas of the body.
2. Increased functional capacity to adapt to stressor such as increasing motor unit recruitment.
3. A prolonged intolerable stressor produces fatigue and leads to a breakdown in the system or injury.
